Fire destroys Osage City storage facility

A fire destroyed a storage unit at Osage City Sunday after a race car owner started the vehicle inside.

Osage City Police Department reported that at around 5:25 p.m. Sunday the department was dispatched to a vehicle on fire inside a storage facility near the intersection of Fourth Street and Ellinwood Street.

Police said that Teresa Wolf, who kept a race car inside one of the storage units, reported she started the car so she could back it out, and within a few moments there was a loud bang and fire filled the front of her storage unit. She was able to get out of the vehicle and out of the storage unit with a minor injury.

Osage County Fire District No. 2 arrived on scene with Osage County Fire District No. 5 and Osage County Fire District No. 6 responding as mutual aid. Osage County EMS responded to check on Wolf, who declined medical treatment and was not transported.

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office and Osage City street department and electric department employees also assisted at the scene.

The storage facility, reported to be owned by Nels L. Peterson, is a total loss.
