U.S. 75 bridge deck repair, overlay project to begin in Osage County

Weather permitting, on Monday, April 21, a repair and overlay project will begin on a total of eight bridges along an eight-mile stretch of the two-lane portion of U.S. Highway 75 from the Marais des Cygnes River bridge to the south Osage County line. Project work includes patching potholes followed by a polymer overlay on the bridge decks and all new pavement markings. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.

Beginning April 21, northbound and southbound U.S. 75 will be reduced to one lane for both directions over one bridge at a time during working hours throughout the project duration. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via flaggers at each end of the bridge. There will be a 12-foot lane width restriction through the project work zone throughout the project duration.

There will be a separate project later this summer that will replace the approach pavement leading up to either side of these same eight bridges.

Drivers should expect delays of up 15 minutes and should allow extra time for their daily commutes throughout the project duration. Updated traffic information for this bridge deck repair project can be viewed at: www.ksdot.org/topekametro/laneclose.asp.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

RAM Construction Services, Livonia, Mich., is the primary contractor on the project with a total contract cost of $371,714. The scheduled completion date for the bridge deck project is late May 2014, weather permitting.

This project is funded by T-WORKS, the transportation program passed by the Kansas Legislature in May 2010. Find out more about this and other T-WORKS projects at:  http://kdotapp.ksdot.org/TWorks/.
