Coffey County Lake to host 10th Veterans Memorial Bass Tournament

The 10th annual Kansas Veteran’s Memorial Bass Tournament in memory of fallen Kansas Guard members will take place Saturday, April 26, at Coffey County Lake, south of Wolf Creek Generating Station near Burlington, Kan. on Highway 75.

The boat-fishing bass tournament, sponsored by the Kansas National Guard’s 2nd Battalion, 130th Field Artillery Family Support Group, celebrates the freedom and pursuit of happiness that Americans enjoy.

“The first two Kansas Guardsmen to fall in the War on Terror, Sgt. 1st Class Clinton Wisdom and Sgt. Don Allen Clary, were both avid sportsmen, as are many of our Kansas Guardsmen,” said Maj. Gen. Lee Tafanelli, the adjutant general. “The tournament was started 10 years ago as a way to remember and honor Wisdom and Clary and all the Kansas Guardsmen who have given their lives to protect our freedom. It’s become a proud tradition, one that I hope continues for another decade and beyond.”

There is no entry fee for the tournament. Check-in and pre-tournament announcements will begin at 6 a.m. The tournament will end at noon with weigh-in, followed by a bratwurst, hamburger and side dish lunch, and the presentation of awards; a $5 donation is requested to cover lunch expenses.
