Lane closures begin on I-35 for bridge work in Lyon County

Kansas Department of Transportation has announced there will be 24/7 lane closures on northbound and southbound Interstate 35 over the Neosho River and the U.S. Highway 50 bridges. The one mile between the bridges in Lyon County will be reduced to one open lane for both directions beginning Tuesday, April 22, throughout the project duration.

This bridge repair and resurfacing project is resuming work after the winter shutdown period. Project work includes expansion joint replacement followed by a polymer overlay application across both bridge decks. Work will take primarily during daylight hours, Monday through Friday.

Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via channelizers. Drivers should expect minor delays. There will be a 60 mph posted speed limit and a 14-foot lane width restriction through the project work zone at all times. No oversized or supersized loads will be allowed through the project work zone.

Updated traffic information for this project is available at: http://www.ksdot.org/kcMetro/laneclose.asp.

The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.

Overall project work for KDOT Project No. 56 KA 2791-01 is scheduled to be completed in mid-June 2014, weather permitting.
