Irene Tucker, 87, Topeka: Jan. 18, 1927 – April 20, 2014

TOPEKA – Irene Tucker, 87, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Aldersgate Village, Topeka, Kan. She was born on Jan. 18, 1927, in Vassar, Kan., the daughter of Lewis and Merle Myrick Ogle.

Irene had been in Topeka since 1995, but had lived in the Vassar and Lyndon communities before that.

She worked for Hallmark Cards for five years, did wallpaper upholstery with Florence Montgomery for several years, and was a bus driver for Lyndon schools for 23 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Vassar and Lyndon, and finally at Susanna Wesley, in Topeka, and was a member of the Lyndon Saddle Club.

On March 20, 1948, Irene was married to Marlin W. Tucker in Vassar.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Marlin on Oct. 19, 1993, and by her brother, Ben Ogle.

Irene is survived by her two children, Douglas W. Tucker (Cheryl) and Marla Tucker-Lavin (Fred), all of Topeka; two sisters, Lois English, Topeka, and Shirley Bronson, Lyndon; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Taran and Angie; and three great-grandchildren, Dagan, Dylan and Dakota.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Thursday. Inurnment at Vassar Cemetery will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church or the Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451.
