Senior Center: Sewers, quilters needed for community service projects

By Osage County Senior Center Director Byron Jordan

The senior center sewing ladies have done some unbelievable quilt work over the years, providing wonderful lap, baby and bed quilts for a number of charitable organizations, such as the veterans at the VA, and the those in need through Help House and the Osage County Health Department. The sewers are committed to putting out a quality product, yet are dollar-wise and efficient using mostly donated materials. The only problem: the number of sewers has dwindled the last couple of years almost to a desperate level.

The sewing group meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at the center from around 8 a.m. to noon. We are hoping that anyone who has various sewing skills, and can take a little time twice a week to help with these projects, would please consider joining the group.

There are still several seats open on our trips to see the beautiful gardens around Topeka on April 30, and to attend the Kansas Sampler Festival in Wamego on May 3. Stop by 604 Market St., Osage City, or call the center at 785-528-4906 for more information.
