OCPR Update: Tee-ball, lifeguard training, swim lessons

Osage City Parks and Recreation has set a schedule for spring activities:

Tee-Ball

For children age 3, 4, 5

Players need to turn 3 by May 1, 2014, to participate

  • Cost is $20 per player
  • OCPR tee-ball is a parent interactive program, meaning all parents are invited to help with this program. Tee-ball coaches are in charge of each game, making sure player positions are rotated and the batting order is set.
  • A head coach is selected by OCPR and the remaining parents serve as assistant coaches for the team.
  • Each team has a roster limit of 10 players
  • Games are 45 minutes or 3 innings.
  • Each team bats everyone and then players rotate to the field for defense.
  • Team practice can start after the deadline, once teams are put together and a head coach is assigned.
  • Games begin the week of June 2.
  • Teams play 6 games, game dates are to be determined based on the number of teams participating.
  • Game times are 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.
  • A game schedule will be sent out a week prior to the start of the season.

Lifeguard Training & WSI Certification

OCPR is offering Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification classes

The courses are led by Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Trainer and WSI Instructor, Lynn Tice

Everyone participating in lifeguard training must be 15 by the time of the course.

Everyone participating in WSI Certification must be 16 by the time of the course.

Lifeguard Training

  • May 17, 9-11 a.m., *Pre-Course Skill Test and Course Orientation
  • May 23, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1-5 p.m.
  • May 24, 25, 26, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
  • Cost is $120
  • At Osage City Aquatic Center
  • Attendance required each day
  • Sign-up deadline May 2

WSI Certification

  • May 27, 28, 29, 30 & June 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
  • Cost is $150
  • OCAC
  • Attendance required each day
  • Sign up deadline May 17

CPR Re-Certification

  • May 3, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., OCHS Gym (elementary school entrance)
  • Cost is $30

Lifeguard Re-Certification

  • May 17, 12-3 p.m., *Includes CPR & First Aid
  • OCAC
  • Cost is $50

Osage City Aquatic Center

OCAC Pool Hours: May 24-August 17, Monday-Friday, 1-8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m., August 18 – Labor Day, Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m. (includes Labor Day)

  • Lap Swim, Monday-Friday, 7-8 p.m.
  • Daily Admission, $3 (Age 4 & Above)
  • Age 3 & Below FREE
  • Age 65 & Over FREE
  • OCAC Swim Pass Booklets – Swim Booklets go on sale at Osage City Hall May 19 and are available for purchase at OCAC starting May 24
  • 50 Swim Card Booklet, $50
  • Deck and Pool Rental Reservation can be made with Corey Linton, before May 24

  • 12-12:30, Parent Tot (6 mon-2 Yrs)

Session Three, July 14-25

Cost is $25 per swimmer per session

Pre-School classes are for children age 3-5.

A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make

Private Swim Lessons

  • Cost $40 per week (One Week=Five 30-Minute Lessons)

Ocac Water Aerobics

Tuesday and Thursdays, 6:45-7:45 p.m.

  • Starting the week of June 2 and continuing through the summer
  • Water Aerobics Instructor, Marcy DeWitt
  • Cost is $3 per class or One Swim Card
