Lyndon community garden kicks off Saturday; all area gardeners invited

The Lyndon community garden will kick off again this year at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Lyndon Community Center, with an informational meeting on the benefits of joining the garden.

Anyone can be involved in the garden, and this year memberships are being offered to allow members to harvest any vegetables they need.

Last year’s garden included two types of corn, bell peppers, jalapeños, five types of tomatoes, radishes, beets, carrots, white onions, red onions, yellow onions, beans, snap peas, large and small cucumbers, kale, cabbage, rhubarb, mesculin, butter lettuce, spinach, marigolds, mixed flowers, marble peas, cilantro, chives, basil, watermelon and mint.

Garden memberships cost $20 and are limited to the first 50 applicants. Members are asked to help at the garden one weekend a month.

In addition to unlimited vegetables during the season, members can also attend community garden educational classes.

For more information, contact Steve Zerr, garden manager, at 785-280-2439, or Lyndon City Hall, at 785-828-3146, to sign up.
