Be cool: Join the Lyndon Help House fan club

Help House, at Lyndon, sponsors and organizes the Lyndon and Carbondale mobile food pantries, with volunteers from those communities assisting with distribution. Next mobile distributions dates are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. June 10, at the Church of Christian Fellowship, 430 Commercial St., Carbondale, and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. June 20, at Jones Park, Lyndon.

Upcoming events and fundraisers: June 1 will begin the Help House Fan Club to collect fans for those in need who do not have air conditioning. This will continue through the month of July. Silent auctions will once again be held during the Melvern Fair, June 19-21, and the Overbrook Osage County Fair, Aug. 13-16. Anyone or any business that has an item or service to donate for this fundraiser is asked to contact Help House director Pam Bilyeu at 785-828-4888.

Immediate and ongoing food pantry needs: Spaghetti sauce, canned fruit, pancake mix/syrup, cereal, canned meats, sugar, flour, Jell-o, cooking oil, diapers, shaving cream, denture cleaner, toothpaste, shampoo, (trial sizes OK), also laundry and dish soap. Cash donations are also welcomed and may be mailed to Help House, P.O. Box 356, Lyndon, KS 66451.

The numbers served during the month of April through the Emergency Food Assistance Program or TEFAP through Harvesters: 133 unduplicated households received food; within those households were 432 individuals, 198 adults, 118 children, 36 elderly, and 80 disabled.

Note: Farm raised meat such as hamburger, chicken, and sausage may be donated if processed in a USDA inspected plant and is dated. Please check canned goods and other food donations to be sure they are not outdated.
