Kids: Catch fish, win prizes at Pomona State Park fishing derby

Kids who like fishing, and their parents, will want to get up early to wet some worms this Saturday at Pomona State Park, during the annual Kids Fishing Derby. All children under 15 years old are eligible for the derby which begins at 8 a.m. at Boat Ramp No. 2 in the state park. Prizes will be awarded.

Parents won’t be left out, though, as this weekend is also a free fishing weekend across the state, and anglers of all ages can enjoy a full weekend of free fishing June 7-8 on any Kansas waters. Although Pomona State Park requires a vehicle permit, no fishing license is required of anglers during the two-day period.

The derby is sponsored by Friends of Pomona State Park and is in conjunction with OK Kids Day,  Wildscape, and the  celebration of Pomona Lake’s 50th anniversary.
