OCPR Update: Water is warming up for aquatic center recreation

OCPR-logo-redSpring is here and Osage City Parks and Recreation is blooming with activities that will get underway as soon as the water starts to warm up. The Osage City Aquatic Center, including swim team, swim lessons, and water aerobics, and youth golf and youth football camp are on the roster.

OCPR Update: Swimming season is almost here

OCPR-logo-redOsage City Parks and Recreation is counting on summer finally getting here, scheduling lifeguard and water safety instructor certification. Also announced are swim team tryouts and swim camp. The change of seasons also means spring baseball is upcoming, beginning with OCPR Tee-Ball for younger players.

OCPR Update: Gearing up for spring and BBQ

With spring just around the corner, Osage City Parks and Recreation is getting ready for spring sports and barbecue. Baseball and softball leagues are forming this month. The Osage City community is preparing for the annual pilgrimage of BBQ cooks and judges, and BBQ lovers to the town for Smoke in the Spring 2022. The event starts off April 8, 2022 with the Taste of Osage City, a giant barbecue party in Jones Park, where everyone is invited to use their BBQ Bucks to taste the fare offered by a select group of competition chefs. The next day, April 9, will be the championship BBQ contest, celebrating its 19th year.

OCPR Flint Hills League Youth Baseball & Softball
Baseball and Softball Divisions – 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U, 15U

  • Players who are not 5 years old by May 1, 2022, are too young for the 6U Boys/Girls Divisions.
  • The 6U and 8U Divisions – Coach Pitch
  • All other Baseball/Softball Divisions – Kid Pitch

$30 per player (Baseball/Softball). Signup forms can be found online at www.osagecity.com and the City of Osage City Facebook Page or sent out by request.

OCPR Update: Sign up for underway for youngsters’ basketball

OCPR-logo-redOsage City Parks and Recreation is accepting signups for K-ball and first and second grade basketball. These programs are for boys and girls and teach basketball fundamentals.

K-Ball
Pre-K & Kindergarten Basketball (Coed)

K-Ball is an instructional program for Pre-K and Kindergarten boys and girls. The program is designed to teach basketball fundamentals, shooting, passing, and dribbling.

  • Sundays, Jan. 9-Feb. 13 (skip Feb. 6).
  • 5-6 p.m. at Osage City MS/HS gyms.
  • Players receive a shirt and participation award.
  • $20 per player.

Signup deadline – Jan. 7


1st and 2nd Grade Basketball (Coed)

The program is designed to teach basketball fundamentals, shooting, passing, and dribbling, plus good sportsmanship through team practice and game play.

  • Sundays, Jan. 9-Feb. 13 (skip Feb. 6).
  • 6-7pm, Osage City ES/MS Gyms
  • Boys practice (ES Gym)
  • Girls practice (MS Gym)
  • Players receive a shirt and participation award.
  • $20 per player.

OCPR Update: Applicants needed to fill advisory board vacancies

OCPR-logo-redSignup deadline is near for Osage City Parks and Recreation youth basketball. Youth basketball is for third through sixth grade boys and girls, and teams compete in the Scott Brown Youth Basketball League. The OCPR parks advisory board is also seeking applicants to fill three at-large board positions. See details below.


Youth Basketball
Third-sixth grade boys and girls

OCPR teams participate in the Scott Brown Youth Basketball League. League divisions are single grades 3rd-6th grade for boys and girls.

  • Team practice can begin the week of Nov. 29, if a head coach has been assigned.
  • SBBL Season, Saturdays, Jan. 8-Feb. 19.
  • SBBL League Divisional Tournaments, Feb. 26.
  • OCPR players receive a team uniform (jersey and shorts), uniform is to be returned at the end of the season.
  • Cost $30

Signup deadline Nov. 8.

OCPR coach-player discount available and OCPR scholarship forms available.

OCPR Basketball, K-Ball and 1st/2nd grade information will be available in December.


Parks Advisory Board Openings

OCPR is accepting applicants to fill three at-large advisory board positions.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must reside within the USD 420 School District.
  • Meetings are the third Thursday of each month.
  • Complete a Citizen’s Board Application; it can be picked up at Osage City Hall or sent out upon request. Return the Citizen’s Board Application to Osage City Hall or to Recreation Director Corey Linton.
  • The board position is a two-year term, with an option of up to two consecutive renewals.
  • Open until filled.

  • BBQ teams accept BBQ Bucks as payment for food.
  • BBQ Bucks can be reused from year to year

BBQ Bucks are on sale 8 a.m.-5 p.m. April 5-8, and 8 a.m.-12 p.m. April 9 at Osage City Hall, and 1-7 p.m. Friday, April 9 on site at Smoke in the Spring, at the Community Building South Side Patio.

OCPR-logo-redOsage City Aquatic Center has several job openings for the upcoming pool season:

Assistant Pool Manager

  • Minimum age of 18 to apply
  • Season Hour Position – During OCAC season
  • 20-40 hours per week
  • If hired, must complete CPR & Lifeguard Training

Lifeguard

  • Minimum age of 15 to apply
  • Season Hour Position – During OCAC Season
  • 10-30 hours per week
  • If hired, must complete CPR & Lifeguard Training

Concession Worker

  • Minimum age of 18 to apply
  • Season Hour Position – During OCAC Season
  • 20-40 hours per week
  • If hired, must complete CPR Training

OCPR Update: OCHS cheer team coaches up-and-coming cheerleaders

OCPR-logo-redOsage City Parks and Recreation is encouraging young cheerleaders to participate for the OCHS Cheer Camp, with a deadline of Sept. 25 for signup. Also in the works is the annual barbecue contest and community barbecue party, Smoke in the Spring, which has been postponed this year to Oct. 30-31, 2020. The schedule of events is shaping up to include fun for everyone.
