OVERBROOK, Kan. – Ruth Marie McGinnis, 91, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kan. She was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of John Ellis Mann and Nina Jessie (Hightower) Mann.
They moved to a farm in the rural Carbondale, Kan., area in 1957. They moved to Overbrook in 2000. She worked for Jostens in Topeka, Kan., as a yearbook assembler for 10 years. They attended Overbrook Bible Church.
Ruth was united in marriage to Golden McGinnis on Jan. 17, 1946, in Omaha. They shared more than 70 years of marriage.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Golden McGinnis; two sons, Wayne McGinnis and wife, Teresa, Scranton, Kan., and Steve McGinnis and wife, Katherine, Mulberry, Ark.; a daughter, Linda McGinnis, Carbondale; four grandchildren, Neal McGinnis and wife, Autumn, Leah McGinnis, Steve McGinnis and wife, Leigh, and Sheila Harrell and husband, Greg; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, John, Donald, Robert and William Mann; and two sisters, Dorothy Schakat and Mildred Teal.
Ruth’s family will receive friends 12:30-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, at Overbrook Bible Church, 719 Western Heights Dr., Overbrook, followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at Ridgeway Cemetery, Carbondale.
