OVERBROOK, Kan. – Steven X. Cross, 63, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at his home in Overbrook, Kan. He was born on Dec. 27, 1953, in Topeka, Kan., the son of John and Mary Chase Cross.
Steve had lived most of his life in Overbrook, but had also lived in Lyndon, Kan., and Carbondale, Kan. He was a construction foreman for Frisbie Construction and then Wolf Construction. He graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School in 1972, was a member of Grace Community Church, and Crappie Masters and Crappie Busters Fishing Club.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Cross and Ronnie Wilkinson.
Steve is survived by his companion, Lovella Long, of Overbrook; seven children, Samuel Cross, Gardner, Kan., Emily Schallock, Scranton, Kan., Joseph Cross, of Minnesota, Ashley McCulley, Wichita, Kan., Jessica Beath, of Arizona, Jeremy Long, Carbondale, and Johnna Long, Olathe, Kan.; three brothers, John Cross Jr., Scranton, Michael Cross, Carbondale, and Jeff Cross, Scranton; two sisters, Christine Cross, Carbondale, and Peggy Rosenow, Topeka; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 7, at Grace Community Church, Overbrook. The family will receive friends 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Inurnment will be in Carbondale Cemetery at a later date.
