BURLINGTON, Kan. – Grace Marie Mayer died Jan. 13, 2021, at Burlington, Kan. She was 100 years old. She was born Grace Marie Lawson on Nov. 4, 1920, near Lyndon, Kan., to Frank F. Lawson and Maria Regina (Rohner) Lawson.
In 1942, Grace married Morris J. Wilson. They had two daughters, Patricia Marie (Wilson) Oestreich and Karen Kay (Wilson)(Allen) Reeves. In 1979, Grace married Arlie L. Mayer.
During her life, Grace lived in or near the Kansas towns of Lyndon, Melvern, Quenemo, Ottawa, Topeka, Garden City, Pomona, and Burlington. She had also lived in Paris, Mo., and Mission, Texas.
Grace worked most of her life as a homemaker, but worked 17 years for the state of Kansas as an election clerk and probate judge pro tem.
Grace enjoyed traveling, reading, fishing, spending time with her family, playing bingo, and visiting with her friends at The Meadows. Grace was a dedicated fan of KU men’s basketball, the Kansas City Royals, and Kansas City Chiefs.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Paul Francis Lawson and Charles William Lawson; sister, Bernice Leah (Lawson) Butler; both husbands; and son-in-law David W. Allen.
Grace is survived by her sister, Clara L. (Lawson) Provencal, of Maryland; both daughters, two son in-laws, Larry Oestreich, Sherman, Texas, and Glenn Reeves, Burlington; three grandchildren, Christopher Oestreich, Dallas, Texas, Kelly (Allen) Findley, Andover, Kan., and Benjamin Allen, Las Vegas, Nev.; four great-grandchildren, Spencer Oestreich, Logan Oestreich, Sydney (Ledom) Spencer, and Allyson Ledom; and three great-great grandchildren, Annika Oestreich, Remington Breshears, Raelynn Spencer.
Cremation is planned. The family is planning a private memorial service to be held at the Lyndon Cemetery in the spring.
