Burris VanWey, 91, Lyndon: March 11, 1929 – Jan. 21, 2021

LYNDON, Kan. – Burris “Van” VanWey, 91, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021, at his home in Lyndon, Kan. He was born March 11, 1929, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of William and Elsa (Borst) VanWey.

Van had lived in Lyndon for more than 27 years, having lived in Kansas City, Burlingame and Topeka, Kan., before that.

Van served in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1952. He worked and retired from General Motors, Kansas City, where he was an assemblyman and then inspector. He was a member of the Burlingame Masonic Lodge No. 79 and the United Auto Workers No. 31.

On March 26, 1969, Van was married to Janice Reitz, in Miami, Okla.

Van was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elsa; and sister, Louise Henery.

Van is survived by his wife, Janice, of 51 years; three children, Vera Davis, of Blue Springs, Mo., William (Diane) VanWey, Chandler, Ariz., and Susan (Frank) Edwards, Meriden, Kan.; brother, Kenneth VanWey, Kansas City, Mo.; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
