TOPEKA, Kan. – Shirley Kirk Homewood, 88, passed away March 16, 2021, at Algersgate Village, Topeka, Kan. She was born Nov. 28, 1932, in Newton, Kan., the daughter of Frank and Lorene Kirk (Valley Center, Kan.)
Shirley graduated from Emporia High School in 1950 and from the College of Emporia in 1954. She later received a Master of Librarianship from Emporia State University.
Shirley was joined in marriage to Richard Homewood, Dec. 28, 1952. He preceded her in death April 4, 1988. They were both teachers in the Osage City, Kan., school system for many years. After her retirement, she spent 12 years working at the Resource Center for Independent Living, Osage City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson, Matt Lowry.
Shirley will live on in the hearts and memories of her children, Mary Lee Homewood and John Homewood; sisters, Jeannine Kirk, Topeka, and Mary Lou Sharkey (Pat), Overland Park, Kan.; grandson, Josh Lowry; several nieces and nephews; and a host of dear friends.
