Osage County Sheriff’s Office investigators have been conducting an investigation regarding the online solicitation of a child by an adult. On Thursday, March 18, 2021, Osage County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Unit took into custody an adult male who had made plans to meet with someone he believed to be a 15-year-old child.
Chad A. Ropar, 36, Topeka, Kan., was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Osage County Jail on suspicion of electronic solicitation of a child and indecent solicitation of a child.
During the afternoon of March 18, 2021, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a theft that had occurred at Harrison Shooter Supply, 24262 S US75 Highway, Lyndon.
Osage County investigators obtained video footage of the theft and identified the suspect as Jericho R. Mayfield, 26, of Lyndon, Kan. Deputies and investigators located Mayfield a short time later and he was arrested and transported to the Osage County Jail on suspicion of theft, possession of stolen property, felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 10:52 a.m., March 19, 2021, an Osage County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle near the Waverly exit on I-35 for a traffic violation. An Osage County Sheriff’s K-9 was deployed and detected the presence of narcotics within the vehicle. Upon search of the vehicle, methamphetamine, marijuana, and various forms of paraphernalia were located within the vehicle. The driver, Brandon J. Beissenherz, 24, of Edgerton, Kan., was taken into custody and transported to the Osage County Jail Facility. Beissenherz was charged with suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.
At 11:46 a.m., March 19, 2021, an Osage County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a vehicle near the Waverly exit on I-35 for a traffic violation. Then vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit came to a stop near 1000 Road and Barton Road in Anderson County, where the suspect fled on foot from the vehicle. A K-9 was deployed and assisted in the arrest, but did not engage the suspect due to the suspect surrendering.
The suspect, Roger D. Stewart, 33, of Garnett, Kan., was taken into custody and transported to the Osage County Jail. Stewart was charged with suspicion of felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, and two warrants. The Osage County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
At 1:20 p.m. March 23, 2021, an Osage County Sheriff’s Office deputy stopped a vehicle near milepost 163 on I-35 for a traffic violation. During the stop, a K-9 was utilized and narcotics were located. The driver of the vehicle, Melvin W. Gray, 53, Leeton, Mo., was arrested and transported to the Osage County Jail on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, no drug tax stamp, illegal possession of prescription drugs, illegal registration, driving while revoked, and no insurance.
