Charles R. ‘Skip’ Hull, 75, Overbrook: Jan. 16, 1946 – April 6, 2021

OVERBROOK, Kan. – Charles R. “Skip” Hull, 75, of Overbrook, Kan., passed away on April 6, 2021. He was born Jan. 16, 1946, at Ottawa, Kan., the son of Joseph William and Wilma Jean Bethell Hull.

Skip graduated from Waverly High School in 1964 and Pittsburg State College in 1969 with a degree in engineering technology. He was commissioned 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army in 1969, and served in Germany and Vietnam as a field artillery officer, achieving the rank of captain. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he worked as an engineer in the rubber industry and worked at companies such as Gates Rubber, Denver, Colo., Mission Rubber and Clay, Riverside, Calif., Industrial Rubber, Parker-Hannifin and Utex.

In 1966, he married Carolyn Perry; they had two sons, Todd and Travis; they divorced in 1977. Skip married Patricia Dewey Merritt, March 27, 1989, and she preceded him in death in 2013.

Skip was an avid outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed hiking, mountain and road biking, and made many friends while biking several hundred miles a year. He loved being on the water kayaking when he lived in California, Texas, and Louisiana. When he moved back to Kansas, he was known for his intarsia woodworking that he sold at local farmers markets and made as gifts for friends and family.

Survivors include sons, Travis Hull, Seabeck, Wash., and Todd Hull, Vero Beach, Fla.; stepsons, Matt Merritt, Cankton, La., and Jarod Merritt, Nashville, Tenn.; grandchildren, David and Tyler Hull, and Mason, Benjamin, Owen, Kayleigh, Chloe, Kyle and Codie Merritt; and a sister, Iris Evans, Waverly, Kan., and her children, Joe and Jennifer Evans.

There are no memorial services planned at this time. Davidson Funeral Home, Topeka, Kan., is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donors to consider donating to a local sports team or cancer research institute. See www.davidsonfuneral.com.
