LYNDON, Kan. – Steven Brian Mounkes, 68, passed away on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kan. He was born on Feb. 14, 1953, in San Diego, Calif., the son of Eldon and Donnalee (Gilman) Mounkes.
Steve grew up near Olivet, Kan., and attended Olivet schools for his first seven years. He had lived most of his life in or near Lyndon, Kan., and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1971.
Steve had worked most of his life as a heavy equipment operator in construction. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local No. 101, and Bikers Against Child Abuse.
Steve was married to Karen Tibbits; they later divorced. He was married to Annette Michael; to this union two children were born, Alec and Mara. They later divorced.
Steve was preceded in death by his son, Alec “Bubba” Mounkes, on Oct. 27, 2011; and his dad, Eldon Mounkes, on Jan. 16, 2021.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Mara Mounkes (Jay Hill), of Lyndon; his mother, Donnalee Mounkes, Lyndon; and two sisters, Annetta (Danny) Hurt, Lyndon, and Tammi (David) Thornburgh, Osage City, Kan.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Burial will follow in Lyndon Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at the funeral chapel.
