Kimberley Ann (Scharf) Yanez, 63, Pomona: Oct. 1, 1957 – May 28, 2021

POMONA, Kan. – Kimberley Ann (Scharf) Yanez, 63, of Pomona, Kan., went home to be with the Lord on May 28, 2021, after her three-year cancer battle. Kim was born Oct. 1, 1957, in Hutchinson, Kan., the daughter of James M. Scharf and Joann M. (Clark) Hill.

Kim graduated from Osage City High School, Osage City, Kan., with the class of 1975.

Kim had a passion for crocheting, teaching Sunday school, gardening, writing, directing the Christmas and Easter programs at church, and spoiling her grandkids. She also had a love for animals.

After several years, Kim met her soulmate, her best friend, and the love of her life. Kim married Daniel Yanez, of Pomona, on June 3, 2016. They shared almost five wonderful years together. Kim and Dan enjoyed teaching the youth group at church, doing the bus route for church, watching their KC Chiefs and KC Royals win, and most importantly, spending quality time with each other.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Chasidy Amanda Gehring; dad, James Scharf; stepdad, Edd L. Robinett; uncles, James (Jim) Clark and Gerald (Jerry) Berry; and her grandparents.

Kim is survived by her loving husband, Daniel (Danny) Yanez, of the home; mom and step dad, Joann and Donald Hill, Pomona; step mom, Jane Scharf, Logansport, Ind.; daughters, Stacy (Gehring) Walstrom and husband, Brian, Madison, Kan., Melinda (Hoffman) Skea and husband, Matthew, Merriam, Kan., and Amber (Hoffman) Vogeler and husband, Eric, Melvern, Kan.; son, Nicholas Hoffman and wife, Jacqueline, Osage City; three stepsons, John (Chop) Yanez and wife, Sandra, Mountain View, Ark., Brian Yanez and wife, Phylicia Kay, Pomona, Garrett Yanez, Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Bradley Lareau and wife, Maxine, Hurst, Texas, and Robby Robinett and wife, Janice, Osage City; sister, Brenda Rockers, Ottawa; stepbrother Mark Hill and wife, Rhonda Simms, Pomona; lifelong friend, Kathryn Robbins, Little Rock, Ark.; and several grandkids, great-grandkids, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, at Countryside Baptist Church, 24608 W Highway K170, Osage City. The family will gather with friends 1-2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
