OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Edwin C. Mueller Sr., 83, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021, at his daughter’s home in Osage City, Kan., surrounded by family. Edwin Clyde Mueller Sr. was born July 25, 1937, in Chicago, Ill., the son of John E. and Gertrude (Sunagel) Mueller.
He left high school to join the United States Air Force.
Edwin was joined in marriage to Ilene Kay Freeman, Aug. 23, 1957, in Osage City. She preceded him in death Sept. 16, 2019.
Ed worked as an iron worker in Chicago in his younger years. He later joined the Osage City Police Department in 1984 and became Osage City chief of police from 1994 until his retirement in 2003. He served as city commissioner in Osage City from 2005 to 2016. He loved watching and going to car races. He was a member of Freemasons, Boy Scouts, and Iron Workers No. 67.
Ed will be forever remembered by his daughters, Teresa (Toby) Nell and JoAnn (Steve) Baumann, all of Osage City; a son, Eddie (Mary) Mueller Jr., Admire, Kan.; a sister, Fern Petramle, of Illinois; a brother-in-law, Max Freeman, Osage City; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John Irwin and Irwin Joe Mueller; and a sister, JoAnn Wagner.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 11, at the Osage City Community Building, 517 S. First St., Osage City. Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City. Cremation will follow service.
