BURLINGAME, Kan. – Carl E. Rice, 86, of Burlingame, Kan., went to be with the Lord July 22, 2021, at a local hospital surrounded by his three daughters. He was born May 16, 1935, on a farm south of Overbrook, Kan., to Jefferson B. and Stella Marie Riley Rice, the seventh of nine children. He lived his entire 86 years in Osage County.
He attended Valley Brook and Overbrook Grade Schools. He graduated from Overbrook Rural High School in 1953.
Carl worked at Goodyear for 35 years before retiring.
He met his wife, Marilyn, at the roller rink in Burlingame. They were married Aug. 26, 1956, at the Federated Church, in Burlingame, and then settled in hometown of Carl’s hometown of Overbrook. To this union three daughters were born, Patti, Pam and Peggy.
Carl and Marilyn moved to her hometown of Burlingame in 1973, where they built their new home and where they have resided for 48 years. Carl enjoyed cars, trucks, anything Ford, camping, boating, and skiing with his family and friends. He would work on about anything with a motor and tires. They were members of the Chippewa Camping Club for many years.
Carl was a past member of the Overbrook Methodist Church. Most of all Carl loved his family.
He is survived by daughters Patricia Lynn Rice Beach (Dennis), Pamela Jo McFarlane, and Peggy Jean Rice; three grandchildren, Josey McFarlane (Christina), Jacob McFarlane (Katie), and Kelsie McFarlane Kooser (Brad); 12 great grandchildren, McKenna, Madison, Morgan, Moxie, and Jameson McFarlane, Justice, Preslee, and Ryker McFarlane, Braxton and Jeffrey Decker, and Collins and Kane Kooser; sister, Mary Ann Rice Miner (Garth); sisters-in-law, Janis Grandon (Dennis), and Joneal Brock; brother-in-law, Gene Hotchkiss (Kari); and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Marilyn, of 65 years; son-in-law, Jeff McFarlane; brothers, Wayne Rice and Bernie Rice; five sisters, Velma Bee Smidt, Dorothy Dot Faust, Ellen Gerisch, Mardell Pitzer, and Gladys Minnie Giffin; two nephews, Doug Gerisch and David Ogle; and a niece, Jani B. Hunt.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, with visitation 1-2 p.m., at the Burlingame Federated Church, 322 S. Topeka Ave., Burlingame. Interment will follow at Burlingame Cemetery.
