James L. Abendroth, 76, Carbondale: Dec. 4, 1944 – July 26, 2021

CARBONDALE, Kan. – James L. “Jim” Abendroth, 76, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021, at the University of Kansas Health-St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, Kan. James Louis Abendroth was born Dec. 4, 1944, in Larned, Kan., the son of Melvern and Laurene Agnus (Peters) Abendroth.

He graduated from Gridley Rural High School in 1963.

Jim was joined in marriage to Norma Jean Hursh on May 22, 1966, in Gridley, Kan. To this union two sons were born, Jared and Justin.

Jim was owner of Abendroth Construction until he retired. He served in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1, Topeka.

Jim will be forever remembered by his wife, Norma, of the home; two sons, Jared (Michelle) Abendroth, Carbondale, Kan., and Justin (Christie) Abendroth, West Bloomfield Mich.; a sister, Pat (Don) Halfman, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Paul (Judy) Abendroth, Burlington, Kan.; half-sister, Irene Busbee, Kansas City; a half-brother, Bob (June) Williams, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Gary Abendroth.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at VanArsdale Funeral Chapel, Osage City. Military burial honors will follow the service at Carbondale Cemetery. Family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Friday, July 30, at the funeral home.
