BURLINGAME, Kan. – Everett “Pete” Neill, 81, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 5, 2021, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kan. He was born July 14, 1940, in Quenemo, Kan., the son of Marvin and Dorothy (Sterrett) Neill.
Pete grew up in Quenemo and Olivet, Kan. He later moved to Maple Hill, Kan., where he lived for several years before moving to the Burlingame, Kan., community in 1996.
From 1960 to 1968, Pete served in the United States Air Force in missile maintenance and was discharged as an airman first class. He was involved in the construction of the dam at John Redmond Reservoir. Pete also farmed and ranched most of his life. He later worked at a rock quarry as an equipment operator. He was a member of the American Legion and attended the Overbrook Bible Church.
Pete enjoyed many things in life, such as building things in his wood shop, gardening, and fishing, but spending time with his family was his passion. He could fix about anything and would do anything for anybody. For the last several years, Pete and his brother John completed a lot of small construction projects. They self-titled themselves “Neill Brothers Handyman Jobs”.
Pete married Pearl Brown. They later divorced. In 1996, Pete married Sandy Lewis, in Quenemo. They recently celebrated 25 years of marriage.
Pete was preceded in death by an infant son, James Neill; his parents, Marvin and Dorothy Neill; and two brothers, Gary Neill and Pat Neill.
Pete is survived by his wife, Sandy, of the home; his three daughters, Patty Lloyd, Quenemo, Michelle Neill and Crystal Maike, both of Alma, Kan.; son, Dax Lewis, Burlingame; five brothers, John Neill, Charles Neill, Craig Neill, Robert Neill and Mike Neill; five sisters, Kay McCurdy, Jean Hunt, Mary Brown, Marilyn Allen and DeeDee Honodel; and many grandkids and great grandkids – whether step or blood relative, he loved them all.
Pete was cremated and graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Quenemo.
