LAWRENCE, Kan. – Elizabeth Mae Barnes, 73, passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence, Kan. She was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Columbia, Mo., the daughter of Roy and Mary (Cunningham) Burton.
Elizabeth had been in the Lawrence community most of her life and had lived in Baldwin City, Kan., for the last few years.
Elizabeth was a cook at the Wagon Wheel Café, Lawrence, for 22 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Lawrence.
On Nov. 26, 1964, Elizabeth was united in marriage to John E. Barnes, in Lawrence. To this union three children were born, Roy, Mary and Kathryn.
Elizabeth was preceded by her husband, John, Nov. 25, 2010; parents, Roy and Mary; a brother, Oscar Burton; a sister, Shirley McNear; and a grandson, James.
Elizabeth is survived by her three children, Roy (Cathy) Barnes, Overbrook, Mary (Chris) Gilby, Gardner, Kan., and Kathryn Barnes, Pomona, Kan.; brother, Robert Burton; two sisters, Janice Thompson, Warsaw, Mo., and Patricia Barnes, Lawrence; and eight grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
