Rodger Kent Wilson, 76, Olivet: July 24, 1945 – Sept. 28, 2021

OLIVET, Kan. – Rodger Kent Wilson, 76, of Olivet, Kan., passed away Sept. 28, 2021, in Emporia, Kan. Rodger was born July 24, 1945, in Anthony, Kan., to Glen and Opal (Angle) Wilson.

Rodger attended elementary school in Anthony until moving to Madison, Kan., where he graduated from Madison High School in 1963. After high school, Rodger earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan.

After college, Roger was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served as a drill instructor. For anyone who knew Rodger, it was hard for them to imagine such a kind, caring man as a drill sergeant.

Rodger met the love of his life, Carolyn Pockrus, while stationed in Ft. Bragg, S.C. They were united in marriage Nov. 2, 1967.

After his discharge from the military, the couple moved to Madison, Kan., where Rodger worked for Didde Web Press Corporation, Emporia, Kan. When the company sold, Rodger and Carolyn moved to Colorado to follow his work. They moved back to Kansas to their current home in the Lebo and Olivet area, where Rodger took a job as a contract draftsman for Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant until he retired.

Rodger’s memory will forever live on in the heart of his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Wilson, of Olivet; four children, Teresa Wilson, Ottawa, Kan., Patty Fletcher (David), Rich Hill, Mo., Lynn Wilson (Denise), Saginaw, Texas, and Roger Wilson (Becky), Springfield, Mo.; brother, Gary Wilson, Omaha, Neb.; and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:00-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at VanArsdale Funeral Home, 202 W. Main St., Madison, KS 66860. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at the funeral home. Burial will follow funeral services at Blakely Cemetery, Madison.
