OVERBROOK, Kan. – Larry L. Schwartz, 81, of Overbrook, Kan., passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, surrounded by family at the Brookside Retirement Community Ruble Ranch, Overbrook. He was born March 19, 1940, in Lawrence, Kan., the son of Glenn and Alberta (Miller) Schwartz.
He graduated from Overbrook High School with the class of 1958. After high school, Larry attended Washburn University, Topeka, Kan.
He was united in marriage to Mary Suzanne Albright, July 7, 1961, in Topeka. They shared more than 60 years of marriage.
Larry attended school to become a master plumber. He worked for Smiles Plumbing, Topeka, as an apprentice, and later worked for Young and Lockhart, Topeka, as a plumber, before retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union No. 441. Larry also enjoyed farming.
In Larry’s early years, he enjoyed spending time at the drag race track. He coached his son’s baseball team. He enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes, driving radio controlled cars, golfing, playing a game of horseshoes, and especially spending time with his grandsons on the farm. Larry will be remembered for his inquisitive, curious mind on how things are made and work. He also loved the outdoors and always had multiple projects to work on.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Mike Schwartz; a daughter, Lisa Schwartz; and a grand-daughter, Analissa Marie Schwartz.
Surviving family includes his wife, Mary, of the home; a son, Brad Schwartz and his wife, Anna, of Overbrook; two grandsons, Brady and Brett Schwartz; and a cousin, Jan McNiven, of California.
A celebration of life visitation will be held 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Overbrook Public Library, 317 Maple St., Overbrook.
