SCRANTON, Kan. – Leo N. Arb, 85, passed away peacefully in his sleep during the early hours of Monday, Nov. 15, 2021, at his home in Scranton, Kan. He was born July 12, 1936, in Belleville, Kan., the son of Clarence and Lena Childers Arb.
Leo entered the United States Navy on March 17, 1955. He proudly served four years, including time onboard the U.S.S. Denebola, a Victory Ship first commissioned in June 1944, and serving on the battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin. On March 12, 1959, after being recommended for reenlistment, Leo received his honorable discharge and returned to civilian life.
He worked as an auto mechanic, perfecting his craft over the next several years while working at numerous dealerships and auto shops throughout the area.
He married DeLores Zumbrunn on April 25, 1959, in Emporia, Kan. They later divorced but always remained a part of each other’s lives and the lives of their six children.
Leo will live on in the hearts and memories of his daughters, Ramona Parsons and her husband, Philip, of Scranton, DeAnna Starkebaum and her husband, Phillip, Scranton, Dawna Samson and her husband, Bob, Topeka, Kan., Janice Arb, Wichita, Kan., Becky Arb, Scranton, and Valerie Arb and her companion, Jason Bevitt, Topeka; sister, Goldie Young, Benton, Kan.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marybelle Burnett; and brother, Richard “Joe” Arb.
Cremation is planned with a celebration of Leo’s life scheduled 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Scranton VFW, 324 SE Ave., Scranton. His ashes will be inurned at Lena Valley Cemetery, north of Lamont, at a later date. See vanarsdalefs.com.
