CARBONDALE, Kan. – Debra Ann Hortenstine, 63, of Carbondale, Kan., passed away on Dec. 21, 2021, at University of Kansas Medical Center. She was born May 28, 1958, in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Forrest and Josephine (Urban) Gibbs.
Debra was a homemaker and was a truly selfless person, always thinking of others. She enjoyed sewing, baking and cooking, and was the true definition of a great mom. She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Scranton, Kan.
She married William “Bill” Hortenstine, Sept. 18, 1976, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Topeka, Kan. He survives. She is also survived by three children; Jennifer Fenton and husband, Robert, Rebecca “Becky” Idiaquez and husband, Michael, and William “Will” Hortenstine and wife, Sara; six grandchildren, Tracy Fenton, Caleb Walshire, Kimberly Fenton, Alex Idiaquez, Ian Idiaquez and Haley Hortenstine; great grandchild, Zoey Ruley; and brother, Mark Gibbs and wife, Carol.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son-in-law, Jason Walshire.
Debra will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, with family present 5-7 p.m., and a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 400 E. Bracken St., Scranton. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Topeka.
