OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Jane E. Mills, 81, passed away Jan. 8, 2022, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kan. She was born April 22, 1940, in Osage City, Kan., the daughter of Carl Colstrom and Vivian (Daniels) Colstrom.
She was a lifelong Osage City resident, graduating from Osage City High School with the class of 1958.
On Jan. 10, 1959, Jane was united in marriage to Alton Mills, at the Osage City First Presbyterian Church. They celebrated more than 62 years of loving marriage.
Jane and Alton owned and operated the Riverside Supper Club just outside of Osage City from 1964 to 1975. Jane then owned C.J. Gifts and Sportswear, Osage City, for many years. When she closed C.J.’s she began managing the local Dollar General in Osage City until the early 2000s.
Jane was a creative person whose artistic side was always on display. She was a self-taught painter and painted several oil paintings, and had many crafts that she sold over the years at different craft shows and at the gift shop. Jane had a knack for creating the most memorable gatherings for her friends and family. She loved entertaining and could create the most memorable meals and evenings when she hosted. Over the years Jane and Alton had many trips travelling to various craft shows and markets with the sportswear store. She had a wonderful time recalling her trips to Kansas City, Dallas, and Chicago.
She is survived by her husband Alton Mills, Osage City; three children, Terry Mills, Kansas City, Mo., Carrie Sloan and her husband, Andy, Lebo, Kan., Mike Mills, Osage City; two sisters, Barbara Borsdorf, Coral Reef, Fla., and Mary Bolyard, Leavenworth, Kan.; two granddaughters, Katelyn Sloan and her husband, Cody, Lebo, and Whitney Plummer and her husband, Luke, Manhattan, Kan.; and two great granddaughters, Brooklyn and Jade Hutchinson, both of Lebo.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Vivian Colstrom; two brothers, Jessie Colstrom, Bill Colstrom; and a sister, Lorna Kraus.
A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Federated Church of Burlingame, Burlingame, Kan.
