Kenneth William Sleichter Jr., 83, Carbondale: May 31, 1938 – Feb. 10, 2022

CARBONDALE, Kan. – Kenneth William Sleichter Jr., 83, passed away Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kan. He was born May 31, 1938, in Abilene, Kan., the son of Kenneth and Esther (Davis) Sleichter Sr.

Kenny had grown up in Abilene, and then the Greenwood community near Pomona, Kan., and had lived in Carbondale, Kan., since 1965.

Kenny graduated from Pomona High School in 1956, and served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1959, having served on the USS Ticonderoga. He worked for Goodyear Tire Company for five years, then started work for BRB Contractors. He was a truck driver and then a heavy equipment operator. He became a manager and job superintendent until his retirement in 2003.

On June 2, 1957, Kenny was united in marriage to Bessie Pruett, in Ottawa, Kan. To this union two children were born, Rex and Joy.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Esther; and a sister, Norma Newkirk.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Bessie, of 64 years; his two children, Rex (Sandy) Sleichter, Carbondale, and Joy (Ferlan) Brandenburg, Scranton, Kan.; sister, Carol DeMaranville, Pomona; and five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon, Kan. Inurnment will be in the Carbondale Cemetery at a later date.
