OVERBROOK, Kan. – Marilyn V. Gast, 79, of Overbrook, Kan., passed away May 25, 2022, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, Kan. She was born July 1, 1942, in Harveyville, Kan., the daughter of Norman and Melva (Lewis) Foster.
She graduated from Waverly High School, Waverly, Kan., in 1960.
She was united in marriage to Ronald E. (Ron) Gast, June 10, 1961, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Waverly. They shared more than 52 years of marriage before the passing of her husband, Ron, on June 16, 2013.
Ron and Marilyn moved to the Scranton, Kan., community in 1963. Marilyn was a cook at Santa Fe Trail USD 434 for 25 years before retiring in 2004.
Marilyn was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Scranton, where she served on the Altar Society.
She is survived by three daughters, Penny Ard, of Topeka, Marsha Goodyear and husband, Tadd, Overbrook, and Elizabeth Gamblin and husband, Danny, Overbrook; a son, Joseph Gast and wife, Penny, Scranton; a brother, Ronald Foster and wife, Vickie, Grain Valley, Mo.; and a sister-in-law, Michelle Foster, Burlington, Kan.; and six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Marvin Foster; and her husband, Ronald Gast.
A Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. followed by a visitation from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 400 East Bracken St., Scranton, KS 66537. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 303 S. Sixth Street, Osage City, Kan. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Waverly.
