QUENEMO, Kan. – Florence Lenora Lewis, 94, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kan. She was born April 17, 1928, on the family farm near Westphalia, Kan., the daughter of Noah and Florence (Abbott) Borror.
Florence grew up in rural Anderson County, and graduated from Westphalia High School in 1946. She had lived most of her life in Quenemo, Kan., and had been in Ottawa, Kan., for the last few years.
Florence worked as a seamstress for 20 years for the H.D. Lee Company, Ottawa; afterward, she was a bus driver for the Marais des Cygnes Valley schools and worked with ECKAN Head Start. She was a member of the Quenemo United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and delivered for Meals on Wheels.
On May 1, 1949, Florence married Duane Shaw, they later divorced. On May 28, 1966, Florence married Earl Dean Lewis, in Ottawa.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, on Feb. 18, 2008; by two of her sons, Darren Lewis, Dec. 19, 1982, and Sanford “Sandy” Shaw, May 7, 2022 her parents, Noah and Florence; and her two brothers, Martin and Calvin Borror.
Florence is survived by her two sons, Earl (Shari) Lewis Jr., Topeka, Kan., and Leslie (Rita) Lewis, Garnett, Kan.; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon, Kan. The family will receive friends 5:30 p.m. until service time Friday. Private family inurnment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Quenemo, at a later date.
