Stromgren to lead annual county fair parade at Osage City

Derald Stromgren, 2022 Osage County Fair Parade marshal.

The Osage City Chamber of Commerce has announced Derald Stromgren has been selected as the parade marshal for the 2022 Osage County Fair Parade, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, on Market Street in Osage City.

Derald has been a resident of Osage City his entire life. He graduated from OCHS in 1959. He married Mary Lou Jones in 1966. Derald and Mary Lou raised two sons, Brian (Jeanette) Stromgren and Kevin (Lisa) Stromgren, all of Osage City. He has three grandchildren, Christian, Amy, and Sydney.

Derald worked at Hallmark Cards (Osage Products) for 27 years before retiring. Then he and his wife, Mary Lou, established Stromgren Greenhouse in 1980. As a previous member of the Osage City fair board, Derald followed in his father’s, Fred Stromgren, footsteps by serving on the fair’s executive board. Derald has served as fair board president, and as the horticultural superintendent for many years.

Derald is always willing to help others. He helps deliver Meals on Wheels, assists with Kiwanis paper pickup, and provides gardening advice, as well as sharing the garden produce he grows with residents of Osage City. Derald enjoys gardening, attending events that his grandchildren participate in, and spending time with his family.

This year’s parade theme is “Blue Jeans and Country Dreams”.
