John William Gray, 69, Quenemo: July 27, 1953 – Aug. 27, 2022

QUENEMO, Kan. – John William Gray, 69, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, at his home west of Quenemo, Kan. He was born on July 27, 1953, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Ross and Caroline (Chamberlain) Gray.

John grew up in Topeka but moved back to the family farm in 1980.

John started work as a mechanic for the Kansas Turnpike Association, then started Grays Equipment, Lyndon, Kan., which became Twin Lake Motors. He and his brother Larry owned the True Value Hardware store in Pauline, Kan., and he had also started Colorado Building Materials. Throughout his life he also worked on the family farm and his passion was being a mechanic. He had earned his pilot’s license and was an avid flyer.

On March 25, 2004, John was married to Anne Loomis, in Miami, Okla.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Caroline; and his brother, Larry Gray.

John is survived by his wife, Anne, of the home; two daughters, Melissa (Tyler) Bean, Lyndon, and Brooke Gray, Topeka; stepson, John (Sarah) Durino, Berryton, Kan.; and eight grandchildren, Taylor, Audrey, Trevor, Savannah, Charleigh, Dylan, Chance and Quinton.

Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until service time. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Lyndon Cemetery.
