Rural Carbondale man injured in house explosion Saturday

The victim of a rural house explosion Saturday near Carbondale, Kan., has been identified as Timothy L. Howey, 62, of the residence. He was reported as remaining in critical condition Sunday at University of Kansas Medical Center.

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 6:56 p.m. Sept. 24, 2022, 911 calls were received about a possible house explosion at 11600 S. Indian Hills Road, about seven miles northwest of Carbondale. Sheriff’s deputies, Osage County fire districts No. 1, Carbondale, and No. 6, Burlingame, Auburn Fire, and Osage County EMS were dispatched to the scene.

Deputies first on the scene reported the house was destroyed and was on fire. Howey was transported from the scene by a Lifesave Air Ambulance to University of Kansas Medical Center in critical condition.

The cause of the explosion remained under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office.
