MELVERN, Kan. – Lyle Richard Janssen, 57, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, at his home in Melvern, Kan. He was born Nov. 17, 1965, in Columbus, Neb., the son of Richard and Ila (Hueschen) Janssen.
Lyle had lived in Nebraska before moving with his family to rural Lyndon, Kan., and then lived in Melvern for more than 30 years.
Lyle graduated from Marais des Cygnes Valley High School in 1984. He was a member of the football team, and was active in FFA and 4-H. He had worked for Brecheisen Fencing, Jack White Fencing, and Rex Arb, but mostly enjoyed driving his blade and maintaining roads for Melvern and Valleybrook Township for many years.
On Sept. 2, 1989, Lyle was united in marriage to Shelly Reece, in Lyndon. To this union two children were born, Lukis and Brookelyn.
Lyle was preceded in death by his dad, Richard Janssen, on March 15, 2009.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Shelly, of 33 years; son, Lukis (Samantha) Janssen, Melvern; daughter, Brookelyn Janssen, Lyndon; mother, Ila, Vassar, Kan.; two sisters, Kayleen Manrose, Wakarusa, Kan., and Jay (David) Lee, Vassar; and granddaughter, Lyla Janssen. Lyle had a strong bond with his dog, T.J., but he had a stronger dislike for cats.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Marais des Cygnes Valley High School gymnasium. Inurnment will be in the Melvern Cemetery at a later date.
