Marvin “Jack” White, 89, Melvern: May 7, 1924 – Sept. 2, 2013

MELVERN – Marvin “Jack” White, 89, passed away on Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Newman Regional Hospital, Emporia. He was born on May 7, 1924, near Melvern, the son of Walter and Elsie Patterson White.

Jack had lived all of his life near the Melvern community and graduated from Melvern Rural High School in 1942.

He was a farmer and stockman, and was a member of the Melvern Lodge No. 22 A.F.&A.M., the Carpenters Union No. 1445, Topeka, and the Melvern United Methodist Church.

On May 25, 1947, Jack was married to Sandra Chamberlin at the Presbyterian church in Waverly.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elsie; a brother, Robert White, and two sisters, Lydia Cooke and Norma Green.

Jack is survived by his wife Sandra of the home; three sons, Jack E. White, Melvern, Jim White, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Gary White, Melvern; a sister, Marie Hill, Emporia; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Jack will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at Melvern United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Melvern Cemetery.
