OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Norma Lee Thomas, 88, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka, Kan. She was born Jan. 24, 1935, in Auburn, Neb., the daughter of Lee and Elma (Snyder) Armstrong.
Norma grew up around Auburn, and had lived in and around Osage City, Kan., for the last 55 years.
She graduated from Peru State College, in Nebraska, with a degree in education. She was an elementary school teacher for more than 25 years, and retired from the Marais des Cygnes Valley School District. She was a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Osage City, where she had been a member of WELCA and had taught children’s Sunday school. She had been a 4-H leader and had delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years.
On June 30, 1962, Norma was united in marriage to Guilford William Thomas, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Auburn. To this union, four children were born, Sarah, Donnita, Larry, Charles.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Elma; her brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Katie Armstrong; and a brother-in-law, Vaughn Thompson.
Norma is survived by her husband, Gil, of over 60 years; her four children, Sarah Thomas and Donitta Thomas, both of Topeka, Larry Thomas, Emporia, Kan., and Charles (Kristi) Thomas, San Antonio, Texas; granddaughter, Angel Thomas, San Antonio; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie Thompson, Topeka.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Osage City. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be in the Nemaha Cemetery, near Nemaha, Neb., following the service.
