OCPR Update: Spring means lifeguard training, water safety, swim lessons, tee-ball, golf

OCPR-logo-redSpring is here and it’s time to start planning for warm weather recreation. Osage City Parks and Recreation has scheduled lifeguard training, water safety instructor certification and lifeguard recertification, swim lessons, tee-ball, youth golf, and enjoyment of the Osage City Aquatic Center.

Lifeguard Training
May 22-26, 1-5 p.m.

  • Cost is $150
  • Instructor, Lynn Tice
  • Students MUST bring their own breathing mask
  • Students are expected to complete 7 class hours online, by the dates assigned
  • Blended Learning Course
  • Includes First Aid and CPR
  • Attendance Required Each Day
  • Must be 15 to take the class

WSI Certification
May 22-26, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

  • Cost is $150

Lifeguard Re-Certification

  • Cost is $50
  • May 21, 1-5 p.m.

Lifeguard Instructor Training

  • Cost is $150
  • May 18, 19, 20, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

OCPR Tee-Ball
For children age 3, 4, 5

  • Players need to turn 3 by May 1, 2022 to participate
  • Cost, $20 per player
  • OCPR tee-ball is a parent interactive program, meaning all parents are invited to help with this program.
  • Tee-ball coaches are in charge of each game, making sure player positions are rotated and the batting order is set.
  • A Head Coach is selected by OCPR and the remaining parents serve as assistant coaches for the team.
  • Each team has a roster limit of 10 players
  • Each team bats everyone and then players rotate to the field for defense.
  • Team practice can start after the deadline, once teams are put together and a head coach is assigned.
  • Games begin the week of June 5
  • A game schedule will be sent out a week prior to the start of the season.

Youth Golf Camp
3rd-8th Grade Boys and Girls

  • Grade is based on the 2023-2024 School Year
  • OCPR is partnering with Lesli Harmon and the OCHS Golf Teams to provide this Youth Golf Camp
  • Osage City Municipal Golf Course, 1401 South 4th Street
  • June 6-8, 10-11:30 a.m. (ALL Grades)
  • $30 per student
  • Golf clubs, students can bring their own to use – or – clubs will be available if you do not own any
  • Make sure to mark on the form if your golfer can bring their own golf clubs or needs golf clubs provided
  • Make sure to mark on the if your golfer is left-handed or right-handed
  • This camp will teach fundamentals of the game, including swing mechanics and etiquette

Red Cross Swim Lessons

Group Swim Lesson Forms available online at www.osagecity.com, at the Osage City Facebook Page and Osage City Hall. Starting May 27, Swim Lesson forms will be available at OCAC.

Group Lesson #1, June 12-22

  • 10-10:45 a.m., Pre-School, Level 1, Level 4, Level 5
  • 11-11:45, Pre-School, Level 2, Level 3
  • Cost $25 per swimmer per session

Group Lesson #2, July 3-13

  • 10-10:45 a.m., Pre-School, Level 1, Level 4, Guard Start
  • 11-11:45, Pre-School, Level 2, Level 3
  • 12-12:30, Parent Tot (6 months-2 years), must be accompanied by an adult
  • Cost $25 per swimmer per session

Private Lessons

  • OCAC Staff will contact you about a time during the session selected

  • $40 per week, per swimmer (One Week=Five 30-Minute Lessons)

Pre-School Sessions, Pre-K Swimmers MUST be Age 3 by the first day of class, to be enrolled in the session

  • A minimum of 4 swimmers is needed for a class to make
  • Swim Lessons are Monday-Thursday ONLY
  • Friday will be used as a Make-Up Day (as needed)
  • Lessons WILL NOT be held if the air temperature is below 70 degrees

OCAC Pool Hours, May 28-August 13, 2023: Monday-Friday, 1-6 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 1-6 p.m.

  • $3 (Age 4 and Above)
