Marias des Cygnes Valley Elementary School Principal Twila Wollenberg has finally taken her place in Emporia State University’s recreation department hall of honor – three years after being inducted.

ESU Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation recognizes graduates who have achieved prominence in their chosen field or who have made significant contributions to Emporia State in the form of service to the HPER department.

Wollenberg was inducted the HPER Hall of Honor in 2020, but due to the pandemic at the time, the celebration was cancelled. No inductees were named in 2021 or 2022 because of the continuing pandemic. This year’s 2023 inductees were honored along with the 2020 inductees in a ceremony held earlier this year at the ESU HPER building.

Wollenberg, the longtime principal at MdCV Elementary School, was recognized as a 1988 graduate of ESU. Other 2020 HPER Hall of Honor honorees were Ross Bjork, Steven Costanzo, Matt Howe, and Ryan Martin; 2023 inductees included Craig Barnes, Sarah Jo Gardner, Sarah Gietscheir-Hartman, Matt Marasco, Jesse Nelson, and honorary inductee Vicki Worrell.Information and photo submitted.
