Margie Marie Mersmann, 87, Osage City: April 13, 1936 – June 25, 2023

OSAGE CITY, Kan. – Margie Marie Mersmann, 87, passed away peacefully, Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Baldwin Healthcare and Rehab, Baldwin City, Kan. Margie Marie Nichols was born April 13, 1936, near Kincaid, Kan., the daughter of Harold Ernest and Esther Jane (Thompson) Nichols.

She graduated Welda High School, in Welda, Kan., in 1954. She later went back to school and received a BA in education from Washburn University in 1985.

She was joined in marriage to Frank Charles Mersmann on May 4, 1957, at the Sacred Heart Church in Ottawa, Kan.

Margie was a much loved teacher at Overbrook Middle School, Overbrook, Kan., for many years. After retirement she continued to substitute teach all over Osage County, touching the lives of countless students. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Osage City, Kan., and the Altar Society.

Margie is survived by her husband, Frank, of Osage City; daughter, Christina (Tom) Flyntz, Scranton, Kan.; four sons, Patrick (Laurie) Mersmann, Scranton, Douglas (Denise) Mersmann, Olathe, Kan., Roger Mersmann, Osage City, and Scott (Tina) Mersmann, Baldwin City; sister, Barbara (Bob) Jellison, Hutchison, Kan.; and 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 309 S. Sixth St., Osage City. Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday, with visitation 7-8:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow mass at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Osage City.
