Fred Ivan Sweetwood, 67, Quenemo: Feb. 12, 1956 – July 15, 2023

QUENEMO, Kan. – Fred Ivan Sweetwood, 67, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at his home in Quenemo, Kan. He was born Feb. 12, 1956, in Ottawa, Kan., the son of Clinton and Kathleen (Knight) Sweetwood.

Fred graduated from Prairie View High School, La Cygne, Kan., in 1974. He lived most of his life in the Quenemo community. He was a truck driver for more than 30 years, and retired after 20 years driving for WalMart due to his health. He was involved in Wreaths Across America, WalMart Heart, Trucker Buddy, and veterans programs. He was a member of the Lyndon First Baptist Church. He loved fishing, hunting, camping, NASCAR, and the Chiefs.

His family was his life and he was so proud of all of them.

On Sept. 23, 1977, Fred was united in marriage to Cassandra Woodward, in Vassar, Kan. To this union two children were born, Scott and Melissa.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Kathleen; his sister, Carol Cornett; and his grandson, Skylar Sweetwood.

Fred is survived by his wife, Cassandra, of the home; son, Scott Sweetwood, Ottawa; daughter, Melissa Smith, Quenemo; two sisters, Madeline (Don) Carson, Quenemo, and Pearl (Leon) Callahan, La Cygne; brother-in-law, Raymond Cornett, Garnett, Kan.; four grandchildren, Tannar, Caden, Autumn and Koda; and great-granddaughter, Skylar.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon, Kan. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kan. The family will receive friends 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
