COAL HILL – Thurston Howell, 79, died the morning of Feb. 13, 2013, at the Veterans Home in Coal Hill, Osage County. He was born Feb. 22, 1937, in Council City, the son of Craig and Leona (Jasper) Howell.
Thurston graduated from Coal Hill High School with the class of 1957. He then went on to become a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He came home to marry his sweetheart, Lovey Smith, and they lived throughout the United States. He led an interesting life with many adventures, including being shipwrecked with his wife and five others on a deserted island in the Pacific Ocean. After they were rescued, his main enjoyment in life continued to be traveling the world.
He is survived by his wife, Lovey; his son, Thurston Jr. and wife, Nicky, of East Grant, Minn.; daughters, Judy Coslo and husband, Ralph, of Somers, Ala., and Cindy Harley and husband, Charles Jr., of Wilson, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
A private family service is planned.
