Anthony Wayne Drake, 45, Ottawa: Sept. 7, 1977 – July 16, 2023

OTTAWA, Kan. – Anthony Wayne Drake, 45, passed away July 16, 2023, at Baldwin City Healthcare and Rehab Center, Baldwin City, Kan., after a short fight with cancer. He was born Sept. 7, 1977, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Charles and Diann (Abel) Drake.

Anthony grew up in Lyndon, Kan., and graduated from Lyndon High School in 1996. He had lived in Osage City, Burlington and Ottawa, Kan., with COF.

At the age of 18, Anthony participated in the World Special Olympics in New Haven, Connecticut for Team USA, and won two bronze medals in powerlifting. He also won numerous medals in the Kansas Special Olympics in track and field, basketball and bowling.

Anthony was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and JoAnne Drake; and his aunt, Nancy (Tevis) Abel.

Anthony is survived by his parents, Charles and Diann Drake, of Vassar, Kan.; maternal grandparents, John and Ruth Abel, Vassar; his sister, Nicole (Jeremy) Hager, Scranton, Kan.; three uncles, Gary (Susan) Drake, Lyndon, Mike Abel, Vassar, and Marty (Pam) Abel, Independence, Mo.; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A celebration of life to remember Anthony will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 28, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Inurnment in the Vassar Cemetery will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Friends of COF, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451. Condolences can be left at feltnerfuneralhome.com.
