OVERBROOK, Kan. – Dale Ronald Gustin, 74, of Overbrook, Kan., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023, at KU St Francis Campus, Topeka, Kan., surrounded by family. He was born March 11, 1949, in Eureka, Kan. the son of Harvey Sr. and Lucille (Gulick) Gustin.
He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School with the class of 1967. He served in the U.S. military, and was a proud Marine as a lance corporal stationed in Vietnam February 1968 to December 1969. He was a member of American Legion Post 239, Overbrook.
He was united in marriage to Sondra Hayes Schallock, on Nov 14, 1976. They shared 27 years of marriage and later divorced.
Dale worked at Martin Marietta, Ottawa, Kan., as a dynamite operator, then was a trucker for Allied Moving and Storage for more than 35 years – his handle was “YoYo.”
Dale enjoyed his grandchildren and family; he was always the life of the party, and as mentioned by a niece, the funniest man she ever met. He loved wood crafting, and left loved ones and friends with a few of his crafts. He was a very giving and generous man to those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elton L Gustin; a son, Brian K. Schallock; and a niece, Stephanie Y. Foote Ziegler.
Survivors include his brothers, Harvey Jr., Topeka, David (Nancy), Mount City, Kan., Leslie, Overbrook; sisters, Elaine (Daryl) Nichols, Reedsport, Ore., and Nadine (Eddy) Simmons and Lorette (Gene) Ziegler, both of Overbrook; daughter-in-law, Emily Schallock (Dustin Brownlee) and grandchildren, Dorian K. Schallock (Nicole), Shay K. Schallock and Dalan Brownlee, all of Scranton, Kan.; son, Jamey R. Schallock, Topeka; grandson Draven (Abby) Schallock, Independence, Mo.; granddaughter, Lyndsey (Matt) Ramos; great-granddaughter, Myra; great-grandson, Lian; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was loved by all.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Overbrook Bible Church. The family will greet friends and have a viewing 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in Valley Brook Cemetery, south of Overbrook.
