Patricia Diane Kemble, 89, Carbondale: Sept. 8, 1934 – Oct. 29, 2023

CARBONDALE, Kan. – Patricia Diane (Haas) Kemble, 89, Carbondale, Kan., passed away Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023. Pat was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Topeka, Kan., to Claude V. and Sarah E. (Raby) Haas.

As a child, Pat’s family moved around a lot, but finally settled in Carbondale when she was in eighth grade. While at Carbondale High School, she was a cheerleader, cheering the 1951 Vikings to a basketball state championship. After high school she went to Clark’s Business School, graduating at the top of her class. She was quickly hired by the Santa Fe Railroad.

While in high school, she met Allen D. Kemble, of Dover, Kan., at a town dance. Upon first sight, Allen knew she was the woman he would marry. They were married Sept. 19, 1952. Upon Allen’s discharge from the Navy, they owned and operated Drywall Construction for 53 years.

They had six children; three boys and three girls, just as Pat had always hoped. You can ask any one of the six and they will tell you that Pat was the best mother in the world. She loved each and every one of them with all of her heart. She also loved Allen, her companion and soulmate of 71 years. They never argued or fought. Their life consisted of love, respect and devotion. They stood united when raising their children, and when the children were gone, they still had a life together, enjoying each other’s company daily.

Pat was truly gifted in both music and art. She played piano, violin, autoharp, guitar and organ. She was an accomplished painter, ceramicist, calligrapher and quilter. Additionally, she had a deep love for her pets, especially her dachshund, Stinky, and her cat, George.

Pat is predeceased by her parents; and one grandson, Timothy Kemble.

She is survived by her husband Allen, of the home; her sister, Sue Coffee, of Carbondale; children, Stuart (Denise) Kemble, of Henderson, Nev., Bryan (Carolyn) Kemble, Carbondale, Keyta (Michael) Kelly, Tonganoxie, Kan., Susan (Steve) Bessette, Carbondale, Anne (Kurt) Kluin, Chanute, Kan., and Eric (Barb) Kemble, Carbondale; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Pat requested that donations be made to the Cat Association of Topeka in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Ave., Lyndon, KS 66451. She requested that those attending her funeral rejoice by wearing bright and happy colors.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship, 104 S. Fourth St., Carbondale. Internment will follow at Carbondale Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening 6:30-8 p.m. at the church.
