Jacob George Weimer, Jr., 76, Olivet: April 14, 1947 – Oct. 24, 2023

OLIVET, Kan. – Jacob George Weimer, Jr., 76, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at Newman Regional Health, Emporia, Kan. He was born April 14, 1947, in Olivet, Kan., the son of Jacob and Erma (Jones) Weimer.

George had lived most of his life in the Olivet community and had graduated in the last class from Olivet High School in 1965.

After high school, George joined the United States Marine Corps and served from 1965 to 1969. He served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967 and was discharged as a corporal. He returned home and began work as a heavy equipment operator on the Melvern Dam. He worked bridge construction for several companies as a crane operator and bridge superintendent. He was a member of the American Legion Post 317 in Melvern for more than 50 years.

On June 30, 1967, George was united in marriage to Norma Catlin, in Las Vegas, Nev. To this union two children were born, Shane and Shauna.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Erma.

George is survived by his wife, Norma, of 56 years; son, Shane (Beth) Weimer, Melvern, Kan.; daughter, Shauna Jones, Melvern; two sisters, Pat (Terry) Lightle, Topeka, Kan., and Sandy (Doran) Sedgwick, Lyndon, Kan.; four grandchildren, Chase Jones, Josey Weimer, Carson Jones, and Jake Weimer; and a great-grandchild, Sawyer Isch.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon. Burial will be in Alpine Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
