MdCV names 2024 Queen of Courts royalty at home game against Cair Paravel

Marais des Cygnes Valley High School celebrated its basketball royalty during halftime of the boys varsity basketball game, Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, against Cair Paravel High School. Announced at the game as the 2024 MdCV Queen of Courts royalty were senior candidates Queen Kelsey Rice and King DJ Johnson.

MdCV varsity boys lost their game against Cair Paravel High School by a score of 40-55, while the MdCV varsity girls won their game 54-32.

The royalty candidates and attendants were recognized for their scholarship and involvement in school and community activities. Crowning the new king and queen were the MdCV 2023 King Joe Del Percio and Queen Madison Cormode.

Kindergarten attendants were Kilynn Nettleton, daughter of Brytani Lyda and Cody Nettleton, and Aydan Rea, son of Minnie and Jeremy Snover.

MdCV Queen of Courts freshman attendants were Landon Reed, Skye Wade, and Trae Walker.

Skye Wade is the daughter of Christine Wade. While in high school, Skye has been involved in honor roll and choir. In her free time, Skye enjoys art, spending time with family, and babysitting.

Landon Reed is the son of Matt and Sherry Reed. While in high school, Landon has been involved in FCCLA, FFA, football, basketball, scholars bowl, and honor roll, and later this school year, he plans to participate in baseball. In his free time, Landon has enjoyed playing Triple Threat Basketball for the past two years.

Trae Walker is the son of Lori Walker. While in high school, Trae has been involved in football, basketball, FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, scholars bowl, honor roll, and later this school year, he plans to participate in track. In his free time, Trae intends to try out for Triple Threat Basketball.

Sophomore attendants were Akyra Traver and Ty Calderwood.

Akyra Traver is the daughter of Toby and Gloria Kitt. While in high school, Akyra has been involved in volleyball, basketball, and softball – earning all-league and state status – track, FCCLA, FFA, FBLA, FBLA officer, StuCo, and honor roll. In her free time, Akyra enjoys playing competitive softball and coaching first and second grade recreational basketball.

Ty Calderwood is the son of Chris and Christy Calderwood. While in high school, Ty has been involved in football, basketball, baseball, honor roll, and FFA. In his free time, Ty enjoys working for Lacey Farms, fishing, hunting, and riding horses.

Junior attendants were Izzy Steggs and Sam Goddard.

Izzy Steggs is the daughter of Mathew Steggs and Tiffany Steggs. In high school, Izzy has been involved in volleyball, basketball, band, softball, and Washburn Tech auto mechanics. In her free time, Izzy enjoys playing volleyball for Emporia Volleyball Academy and participating in the Cool Car Club of KC.

In high school, Sam Goddard has been involved in football, baseball, and Washburn Tech auto mechanics. In his free time, Sam enjoys participating in the Cool Car Club of KC and track drifting.

Queen of Courts senior candidates were Aydin Deeter, DJ Johnson, Kelsey Rice and Mason Rose.

Aydin Deeter is the daughter of Jessica Watts. In high school, Aydin was involved in softball – earning all-league and state status and basketball. In her free time, Aydin enjoys coaching 14U softball, playing travel softball, and hanging out with friends.

DJ Johnson is the son of Trish and Paul Johnson. In high school, DJ has been involved in football, baseball, honor roll, and Washburn Tech heavy diesel. In his free time, DJ enjoys farming, riding dirt bikes, and motorcycles.

Kelsey Rice is the daughter of Scott and Amy Rice. In high school, Kelsey has been involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, StuCo, National Honor Society, honor roll, FFA, FCCLA, FCCLA officer, FBLA, FBLA officer, and Class officer. In her free time, Kelsey enjoys helping at Amy’s Daycare, babysitting for local families, and hanging out with friends.

Mason Rose is the son of Jessica and Dustin Rose. In high school, Mason has been involved in football, basketball, track, FFA, and honor roll. In his free time, Mason enjoys hanging out with friends and going for drives.
