Truck strikes pedestrian in U.S. 75 accident Monday evening near Carbondale

The Kansas Highway Patrol has identified a pedestrian hit by a truck and killed Monday night on U.S. Highway 75 near Carbondale, Kan.

KHP reported that Robin G. Williams, 64, Topeka, was killed in the accident that occurred around 8:11 p.m. March 11, 2024, in the northbound lanes of U.S. 75 about one mile north of the U.S. Highway 56 junction. The KHP report says a 2021 Freightliner semi-truck driven by Bilal Taskaya, 59, Mountain Top, Penn., struck Williams in the middle of the roadway. Williams was found dead at the scene; Taskaya was reported as having no apparent injury.

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office reported U.S. 75 was shut down in both directions between U.S. 56 and the Carbondale exit as units worked the accident. Traffic was diverted to Topeka Avenue between U.S. 56 and through Carbondale. The highway was reopened several hours later around midnight.

The KHP report offered no explanation for Williams being on the highway.
